Hi there! I made this fun and interactive card for a fiesta birthday!

Interactive Fiesta Card Tutorial IG

Supplies Used:

  • Cinco de Mayo SVG Collection
  • Electronic Cutter, such as Cricut or Silhouette Cameo
  • Printer
  • Scissors or paper Trimmer
  • Scoring Board and bone folder (helpful but not required)
  • Removable tape, such as washi tape
  • String – about 3.5”
  • Glue
  • Cardstock
  • Action Wobbler (optional)
  • Adhesive foam (optional)

I use the Print & Cut feature of Silhouette Design Studio for this interactive fiesta card tutorial. The file also contains SVGs, so if you would rather piece them together, that works just as well. Draw a box 11 x 5.5 inches in your design software. This will not be cut out but we are going to build a background that will ultimately be A2 size (4.25×5.5″) when folded. I will use a trimmer so that cut can be larger than what the Print and Cut feature will do. Layer the cactus plants and banners on the background how you would like. I adjusted the transparency on the color fill panel to some elements that I wanted to appear further away in the scene. I fill the very back of the background with a solid light brown color.

Following this interactive fiesta card tutorial, print the page out on cardstock. Score lines at 4.25″ and 7 5/8″ so the card can be folded as a Z fold.

3. Print the page out on cardstock.

4. Score lines at 4.25” and 7 5/8” so the card can be folded as a Z fold.

5. On the digital version of your card, add lines at the fold marks as a guide. We will delete these in a few. Add a circle 2.4” in size to the middle panel.

6. Choose a piñata graphic and bring that into the software. Size it to fit in the circle. This piece will spin, so make sure the size has a gap from the circle’s edge. Pull the piñata to the outside of the cutting mat

7. Put your printed card on a cutting mat and send it to the machine to be cut. Only cut the circle, not the card or any of the graphics in the background.

8. Put a white piece of cardstock on a cutting mat. In the software, set the outside of the card and the circle to be cut. This will be the back of the card.

9. Line the circle holes up and tape the two card bases together with a gentle tape such as washi tape.

10. Score the white card base in the same place as the printed card base. If the edges do not perfectly line up, trim them down. I just trim the white if it sticks out at all.

11. In the software, duplicate the pinata and flip it horizontally.

12. Set the software for Print and Cut. Move the digital card off the mat. Add the “Fiesta Time” graphic and the mariachi band to the software and size them to fit where you would like them on the digital background then place on the mat in the Print and cut area.

13. Duplicate the “Fiesta Time” graphic and fill in with solid white. Duplicate that piece 2 times. We will use these to make the piece thicker by stacking them.

14. Print the page and cut with your machine. We now have all the pieces.

15. Attach the string over the circle hole, top to bottom, with glue. Adhere a strip of cardstock as shown in photo over the glued string to help it stay secure. Make sure string is taut and allow to dry.

16. Glue printed card and white card together, lining up the circle holes and score lines.

17. Glue the two sides of the pinata together but with the string running through it.

18. Stack and glue the 4 pieces for the “Fiesta Time” piece.

19. Attach the Action Wobbler to the back of the mariachi cactus with the maracas.

20. Glue all the pieces to your desired spots on the card. I used adhesive foam on the other two mariachi players.

21. Add some little embellishments and details here and there as you like.

22. Wind up the pinata and close the card so that when it is opened the pinata spins! It’s literally a party inside the card. You can almost hear the music, right?
