Hi there! You may know me as a crafter, but by education, I am an environmental scientist. I love the Earth and all that it has to offer. I know Earth Day has just passed, but I love my home planet every single day, and I wanted to share this cute set of jewelry I made using shrink plastic. It is just a lightweight material, and I love light earrings!

Products Used:
- Earth Day Heart SVG
- Shrink Plastic (I’m using Silhouette Brand)
- Printer
- Paper hole punch
- Jewelry findings such as jump rings, beads, charms, and necklaces
- Electronic Cutter, such as Silhouette Cameo, or scissors

Import the SVG file into your cutter’s software.
Size the graphic to be 3 times the size you want each piece. For example, I wanted the earrings to be an inch after it is shrunk, so I made them 3 inches on the screen.
Set the margins for Print and Cut registration marks. I always fill the page so I don’t waste materials, so I added extra small hearts to either make more earrings or to make charms for other things, like a bookmark. NOTE: If you do not have a paper hole punch, you can add a circle to each piece. The hole should be the same size on each piece, regardless of the size of the heart.

Using the print and cut feature, print out on shrink plastic. Leave it on the printer tray for a few minutes to dry.
Once dry, use your cutting machine to cut out the designs. You can use scissors instead. The registration marks may not print clearly, and your machine may struggle to read them on the material. When this happens, I print the same page on regular copy paper and tape it on top of the material, lining up the registration marks. You will need to remove each heart as it is cut, because there is nothing holding them in place, and you could jam the cutter.
Remove the backing paper from the shrink plastic.
Using the paper hole punch, punch a hole in each piece where you need to add jewelry hardware. I use the punch because it is the perfect size. However, it is up to you to determine the perfect placement.
Preheat your oven to 325°F. Turn on the oven light so you can watch the progress. Place the hearts on a parchment-lined cookie sheet and place them in a warmed oven. The shrinking will happen pretty quickly. The pieces will ball up and then flatten. Once flat, let them bake for about another 30 seconds. Remove and let cool.

Add jump rings and other hardware for the earrings and pendant. I added a charm and a blue bead to my pendant.

I would love to see your card made with this design or any other Earth Day project you’ve done!
