The final look

Our family trip to Mauritius was filled with sunshine, laughter, and so many special moments — I knew I had to preserve one of them in a way that felt magical and handmade. So I created a custom DIY snow globe magnet tutorial using my Cricut Maker 3, some sparkly shaker dust, and the sweetest Beach Sea Shells Monogram Frame SVG File from Printable Cuttable Creatables!

What I used:

  • MDF base
  • Holographic paper
  • Our laminated family photo
  • Thick acetate sheet
  • Cricut Maker 3 + Design Space
  • M-seal (a waterproof clay-like filler)
  • Pastel blue paint
  •  Baby oil + shaker dust
  • Value vinyl
  • UV resin + resin tape + Lamp
  • Transfer tape
  • Optional: A fridge magnet backing

Step-by-Step Process

Step 1: Cutting the Base & Photo Layers:

I started by cutting my MDF base to shape, and layered it with beautiful holographic paper for that tropical sparkle. I laminated one of our cutest vacation photos and used Cricut Design Space to cut it to the perfect shape and size — super precise and straightforward!

Step 2: Creating the Snow Globe Window:

Next, I cut a thick acetate sheet to the same shape as the MDF Circle. This will form the top layer of the snow globe, keeping all the shaker goodness inside.

Step 3: Adding Depth with M-seal:

To give the piece a little dimension and room for movement, I used M-seal — a common waterproofing material that acts like clay — to build a rim. Once dry, I painted it a soothing pastel blue for a beachy, handmade look.

Step 4: Making the Outer Frame Pop:

I cut my outer frame using value vinyl and that gorgeous SVG design from Printable Cuttable Creatables. My Cricut Maker 3 cut the details so cleanly — I was honestly obsessed! Using transfer tape, I applied the Beach Sea Shells Monogram Frame SVG File over the acetate, lining everything up perfectly.

Step 5: Assembling the Shaker Magic

I poured a bit of baby oil and added shaker dust inside for that whimsical floating effect. Finally, I sealed the entire snow globe with UV resin, cured it under a UV lamp for 15 minutes, and boom — it looked dreamy!

Step 6: Optional Final Touch:

Want to turn it into a keepsake magnet? Just stick a magnet backing and pop it on your fridge!

I love how this DIY snow globe magnet tutorial turned out — it’s more than just a craft project; it’s a memory captured forever. It’s sitting on my desk and the first thing I do every time I see it is give it a nice shake! It makes me smile thinking of the sea breeze and our happy, sun-kissed faces in Mauritius.
