together!
Looking for a fun way to add some sparkle to your next party or summer gathering?
Today, Iʼm sharing how to create this adorable DIY Mermaid Utensil Holder featuring
Printable Cuttable Creatables SVGs! These are perfect for pool parties, birthdays, or any
under-the-sea celebration. Letʼs dive in!
Supplies:
- ES021-Cute-Mermaid-Embellishment
- Glitter cardstock (for the utensil holder base and 3D mermaid backing)
- Glossy photo paper (for Print Then Cut mermaid)
- Double-sided foam tape
- Double-sided tape or hot glue
- Cricut machine
- Plastic utensils and napkins
Note: These are the materials I used for my project, but feel free to use whatever you have
on hand or want to try! Mix and match cardstock, colors, and textures for your own unique
look.
Step 1: Set Up Your Utensil Holder in Design Space
We’ll be building the utensil holder from three rectangles in Cricut Design Space:
- Top rectangle: 4″ x 3.9″
- Middle rectangle: 2.9″ x 3.9″
- Bottom rectangle: 2.9″ x 6.8″
- In Design Space, add three rectangles to your canvas and size them as above.
- Stack them vertically so their edges touch, with the widest rectangle at the top.
- Add score lines where each rectangle meets for easy folding.
- Select all rectangles and score lines, then weld them together so your holder cuts as
one piece.

Step 2: Upload & Edit Your SVG
- Upload your Printable Cuttable Creatables mermaid SVG to Design Space.
- Add the SVG to your canvas and click “Ungroup” to edit individual colors.
- Change colors as desired to match your party theme.
- When finished, select all layers and click “Flatten” to turn it into a Print Then Cut image.

Step 3: Size & Position Your SVG
- Resize your mermaid SVG so it fits perfectly on the front panel of your utensil holder.
- Position the mermaid over the top rectangle to preview the final look.

Step 4: Create a 3D Mermaid Backing
- Select your mermaid, click “Unflatten,” then select all layers and Weld to create a solid shadow layer.
- Change the operation to “Basic Cut.”
- For this project, I cut my 3D backing from a different color glitter cardstock for extra sparkle (you can also use foil or regular cardstock).

Step 5: Print, Then Cut & Prep All Layers
- Utensil holder base: Cut from glitter cardstock.
- Main mermaid: Print, Then Cut on glossy photo paper.
- 3D mermaid backing: Cut from colored glitter cardstock.
Again, use whatever materials you love or have available!

Step 5: Print, Then Cut & Prep All Layers
- Prepare Your Base
Start with your utensil holder base cut from glitter cardstock. This is how it should look before folding and assembly:

- Fold & Adhere the Pocket
Fold up the bottom panel to create the pocket for your utensils, then use double-sided tape
or glue to secure the tabs.

- Add Your Mermaid & 3D Backing
Layer your Print Then Cut mermaid on top of the glitter cardstock backing using foam tape
for extra dimension.

- Attach & Finish
Attach your finished 3D mermaid to the front of the utensil holder. Fill with a napkin and
utensils.
P.S. There are so many different elements included in this SVG file that I didn’t use for this
project! In addition to the mermaid, you’ll also find cute sea creatures, seashells, seaweed,
and even an “Under the Sea” phrase—perfect for customizing your DIY Mermaid Utensil Holder or
creating matching party decorations.
