Hello, Hello Crafty Friends! It’s Shalon here with a little Art Journal Fun for you! Sometimes I find I need to “allow” myself to explore crafty things with “permission” that it can be for no true purpose. If I like how it turns out, great! If not, it’s “okay” to go in the garbage! I mentally can put pressure on myself for every project to be exactly how I envisioned it, and this art journal project was the opposite of all that!
What I Used:
- Swirly Clouds SVG Cut Files & Clipart
- Apple Gift Card Holder SVG File
- Watercolor Paper
- Watercolor palette & brushing
- Plastic Packaging (to apply the watercolor to the page)
- Glue
- Cardstock
- Distress Oxide Inks in:
- Mowed Lawn
- Dusty Concord
- Seedless Preserves
- Antique Linen
- Dauber to apply ink
- Laminate (to make stencil)
This particular project started because I had some empty beverage cans and I thought the labels were super cool – I wondered if I could do something with them. Drawing inspo from the graphics on the label, I decided to use the Swirly Clouds SVG Cut Files & Clipart to create a masking stencil out of some laminate. The core from the Apple Gift Card Holder SVG File also seemed like a perfect match with the label. For both of these journal pages, I used some Distress Oxide ink.
Alternating “Dusty Concord” and “Seedless Preserves” created an aesthetically pleasing background, while also allowing me to practice not leaving a big circle blob when applying the dauber to the page!
The apple cores allowed me to experiment with using a gel pen for edging, Distress Oxide ink around the edges, and my embosser tool to create some lines of dimension. Three cores appear on my page but what you can’t see is the core I flipped over because I didn’t like it!
Sometimes heading into my craft room to just PLAY instead of making a specific project is just fun and freeing! And I ended up loving what I created!
Happy Crafting Friends!
