If you’re a fan of Halloween crafts and love adding a bit of Western flair, these adorable cowboy ghost embroidery hoops are the perfect project!
I used my Cricut cutting machine, heat transfer vinyl (HTV), and SVG files from Printable Cuttable Creatables (“Boo Y’all Cowboy Ghost” and “Howdy Boo Cowboy Ghost SVG File”) to bring these designs to life.
Let me walk you through how I made these delightful embroidery hoops with a spooky twist.
Step 1: Select, Upload, and Cut Your SVGs First, I downloaded the cute ghost-themed SVGs from Printable Cuttable Creatables. These designs perfectly match the Halloween spirit, and the Western elements like the cowboy hat and bandana add a fun, unique touch. I uploaded the SVGs into Cricut Design Space and resized them to fit the dimensions of my fabric within the embroidery hoops. You want to ensure the design is appropriately scaled down to leave enough space for any decorations you plan to add. Once your design is ready in Cricut Design Space, mirror your image (since you’re working with HTV), then load your HTV into the Cricut machine. After cutting, weed out the excess vinyl using your weeding tool to reveal the finished design.
Step 2: Press the Design onto Fabric Now that your vinyl is cut and weeded, it’s time to apply it to the fabric. I used a soft, neutral polka-dotted fabric to give a fun background while letting the design shine. Using my heat press (an iron works too), I applied the HTV to the fabric.
Tip: Follow the HTV manufacturer’s pressing instructions, ensuring the temperature and time settings are correct. Apply pressure evenly across the design so it adheres well to the fabric.
Step 3: Assemble the Embroidery Hoop Once the HTV design is securely placed, position the fabric inside your embroidery hoop. Stretch the fabric tightly and secure it by tightening the screw on the hoop. Trim away any excess fabric around the edges with scissors. If you like, you can glue the fabric to the back of the hoop with a heat gun.
Step 4: Add Decorative Elements To enhance the seasonal feel, I used some faux fall florals, berries, and feathers as embellishments on the top of each hoop. I attached them using a hot glue gun, carefully placing the elements at the top to complement the design without overpowering it.
These Halloween-themed embroidery hoops were so much fun to make! Using the Cricut and HTV made the process easy, and the Printable Cuttable Creatables SVG added the perfect touch of charm. Whether you’re a Cricut newbie or a seasoned crafter, this project is a great way to get into the spooky spirit while adding some Western flair to your decor.
Feel free to share your own hoop designs, or let me know if you have any questions about the process! I’d love to see how your spooky creations turn out.
Happy crafting, and have a “spook-tacular” Halloween!
