PCC User Account Changes!

Update: May 23rd, 2024: New Way to Download Freebies!

I’m excited to announce a new download experience for freebie files!

• If you are signed into your account: you will see a “Download Now” button on freebie design pages. Just click the button and the file will automatically download to your computer / device!
• If you do NOT have a user account (or if you are not signed in): You will be prompted to enter your email to subscribe to the mailing list to download. (Even if you are already on the list, you’ll still need to enter your email to download).
  • Currently, you’ll need to enter your email for each free design you want to download. However, I am working on a solution so you’ll only need to enter your email once per visit.
  • (If you have a freebie only account, there’s still time to place a paid order before May 27th to prevent your account from being removed!)

These changes will help me continue offering new freebies each week without the added cost of maintaining an expensive and oversized database.

A slimmer database will also allow me to add other new and exciting features for users to enjoy, so stay tuned! ✨

What’s Happening?

As you know, I love gifting you freebies to fuel your crafting fun! Over the past 9 years, I’ve added over 460 free designs to the site with a new one added each week! From the beginning, freebies have been available on my site as regular products that take you through the Checkout process. Not only does this make it easier to download free and paid items in a single order, but also to view your order history (free and paid) if you had a user account.

However, every order placed through Checkout creates database tables in the backend of my site. Over the years, with so many people downloading freebies only, the database has grown to 30x the size it should be, which makes the site run slower and has started causing issues on the backend. I have tried different ways of trimming down the database in the past, however, the high cost of keeping such a large database is just not sustainable, so to keep PCC going, I will need to remove all user accounts for freebie only orders. 

What Do I Need to Do?

As of May 27th 2024, if you have an account and have only ever placed “freebie” orders, then your account will be deleted from my site. You are of course welcome to create a new account at anytime if you place a paid order. If you’d like to keep your existing account, then you can place a paid order (while signed into your account) before May 27th, which will keep your account in my system.

If you’ve ever placed a paid order on my site (Thank you!), then you don’t need to do anything. Your account will remain on the site and your paid orders will still appear in your account history. Only users who have downloaded free files without ever making a purchase will be effected. 

I’m working on a new way of downloading freebies without going through the Checkout process. More details on that are coming soon!
